Madonna has adopted a one-year-old Malawi baby boy.


Yohane Banda, the father of the toddler named David - whose mother died of complications during birth - revealed last night that Madonna had picked his son during a visit to an orphanage in the underprivileged African country.


Yohane Banda - who lives in a one-room mud hut - told Britain's The Sun newspaper:

I'm very happy. As you can see there is poverty in my village.




The 32-year-old farmer has not personally met Madonna, but he was told that his son was being adopted by a "famous US musician".


He added:

I know he will be very happy in America. We are told Davie will be coming back regularly to get to know his roots.
